I grew up and lived in Glens Falls, NY all my life. Now I live in Schenectady, NY.

Where have you worked in your professional career and what did you do in those roles?

My current role as a Mechanical Test Engineer is the first and only professional job I’ve had.

In your professional life, where do you find inspiration for your work and where do you go to stay up to date on the industry?

I can find inspiration everywhere for the work I do. I always seek to understand the natural world around me and how things work, which prompts me to find the root cause of problems I encounter and to learn everything I can about the tests I run.

The work I do also helps keep people safe, by ensuring the products we test are fully understood by the companies that make them and the organizations that regulate them. While it can seem mundane at times, this makes a lot of the work I do very fulfilling.

In both my personal and professional life, I am passionate about innovation and making a tangible impact for the better on whatever I’m working on.

2 years. Ever since graduating college.

Describe your job in three sentences.

As a Mechanical Test Engineer, I work mostly in the vibration department performing HCF-Vibration and modal analysis on aircraft turbine and compressor blades. My job involves setting up the tests, running them, reducing the data, and problem solving when something inevitably goes wrong. Occasionally I will do some design work and I am always looking for ways to improve upon my work area and the testing process to make things more efficient and robust.

How does your education connect to your professional career?

I got my BS in mechanical engineering from Fairfield University. As a mechanical engineer, my education gives me a good background in engineering that I rely on everyday.

If you weren’t doing what you do today, what other job would you have?

I would probably do something in a similar field that requires hands-on work and critical thinking. I would get bored doing something that isn’t stimulating, and I would go crazy if I was stuck in an office at a computer all day.

If you were to tell one person “Thank You” for helping me become the person I am today, who would it be and what did they do?

Both my parents, for everything they’ve done to raise me and help me through school and life. I wouldn’t be who I am today without them.

Are you a member of any professional organizations?

No.
