Innovative Test Solutions, Inc. (ITS) provides a comprehensive range of destructive and non-destructive aerospace testing services, including aircraft engine testing and aerospace materials testing. Our engineers provide testing on various materials, components, products, and systems.
To help the aerospace industry develop superior quality products, ITS creates tailored testing services that mimic real-world scenarios. This attention to detail and outcome of the test is vital to the success of the specimen. It’s also vital in helping the industry overcome its biggest challenges regarding the validation of components and the ability to ensure product lifespans and longevity.
The Importance of Validating Components
The systems and products used in the aerospace industry pose a significant challenge because many of the products themselves last for 30 years or longer. However, many of the components and systems within those products have significantly shorter lifespans, sometimes as little as five years or less.
The disparity creates difficulties in sourcing parts, which may eventually become obsolete. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) design replacements at staggering costs in the $50 to $70 billion range for the military aircraft industry. With rigorous testing, OEMs can address issues before parts become obsolete.
Research and development of new systems and components can balance this obsolescence and propel the aerospace industry forward. To be successful, reliable, high-quality testing is critical.

Our Specialties
ITS provides a comprehensive range of destructive and non-destructive aerospace testing services, including aircraft engine testing and aerospace materials testing. Our engineers create tailored aerospace testing services that mimic real-world scenarios. This attention to detail and the outcome of the test is vital to the success of the specimen.
Increasing the lifespan and longevity of the product is only one of our goals. Aerospace testing specialties like jet engine thermal shock testing (JETS) also ensure the materials and products are safe and reliable.
Aerospace Engine Testing
Our ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab performs various types of aerospace engine testing. For example, turbines often undergo fatigue testing, both high-cycle and low-cycle, according to ASTM standards. Our test machines apply cyclic loads that mimic real-world conditions to generate data, pinpoint critical areas, and evaluate safety. Vibration testing allows engineers to test turbines and other complex components’ ability to withstand vibrations similar to those it will experience while in use.
ITS also uses JETS to test the thermal barrier coating, exposing components to temperatures of 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. Our high-level burner rigs allow engineers to assess aerospace engines for quality control throughout the development phases.
Aerospace Qualification Testing
The aerospace industry is a hub of advancement and innovation, which requires equally innovative materials testing. We offer a wide range of aerospace qualification testing to ensure aerospace products are compliant, reliable, and safe. Our product qualification testing methods rely on destructive and non-destructive materials testing services that allow our engineers to increase their understanding of a material’s properties.
Methods include materials testing and failure analysis to evaluate products using mechanical testing for components. JETS tests take place on versatile rigs that we can modify as needed for varying temperature ranges and sample properties to determine product performance and dependability.
White Paper: Software-Based Analysis of Microcracking in Turbine Blades
Relatively small — but capable of performing a mighty task — turbine blades are essential throughout the aerospace industry. These critical components must hold up under some of the harshest conditions, sustaining significant exposure to changing temperatures, varying speeds and airflow, and vibration. Given the conditions, component quality and reliability are critical, yet cycle fatigue causes 80% of mechanical service failures.
After post-testing analysis, ITS engineers found microcracking in a blade that never displayed a significant frequency shift during testing. This finding prompted the team to review data and develop a software-based algorithm to detect and better understand microcracks while flagging parts with microcracking that could otherwise go unnoticed.
