Design Engineer

Summary:
Designs and develops products in the most efficient manner by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes the following, other duties may be assigned:
- Participates in the design and development of new product manufacturing and financial departments to ensure that the new product can be made and used accordingly.
- Modifies the design of existing products to meet the needs of the customer.
- Establishes and maintains a project report for all design or redesign projects including changes made and implementation schedule.
- Supports management in developing the manufacturing flow for new or redesigned product.
- Tests and debugs all product designs through a process of testing and modification.
- Identifies and meets with sub-vendors on a regular basis.
- Performs testing and manages projects in conjunction with design.
- Perform materials testing on a variety of test specimens and components in accordance with customer requirements and in conformance with I.T.S work instructions, procedures, and employee training.
- Execute testing procedures on customer supplied test samples per work instructions and training procedures.
- Program and operate servo-hydraulic test frame systems (various models).
- Assist with mounting test specimens and fixtures.
- Evaluate and characterize fixtures for fatigue tests.
- Accurately complete technical reports, test results, and all other required documentation.
- Execute tests in strict compliance with I.T.S Laboratories quality system.
- Coordinate with the Director of Operations and the principal engineers to maintain testing efficiency.
- Communicates with clients on product needs.
- Ensures compliance with budget.
- Meets project deadlines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Math Ability:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook; LIMS; and Solid Works.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) or equivalent from four-year college or technical school; and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
